This sand snob found a fresh favorite in cayman islands villas. Not divers I wasn`t sure what my family would do over a recent trip to Grand Cayman. Grand Cayman is flat, over developed, expensive (things are imported), not at all my cup of tea. Approximately I assumed.
Being a travel professional I often feel pressured to discover and do as much as possible. Afterall, our greatest tool for planning exceptional escapes is our personally experience. Sometimes I play so much that I think that I would like a getaway from my vacation! On Grand Cayman I could love a guilt-free beach holiday. After 2-72 hours of checking out the island, I had virtually seen everything so could enjoy the rest of my time soaking up the sun with the family.
We spent the first few nights at Coral Stone Club. A compact, independently owned condominium complex on Seven Mile Beach (SMB) with 32 three bedroom, 3 bath units accessible to rent every day. Positioned in three, three-story buildings, every one of these 1800 sq . ft . units have the same layout and provide views of the ocean. Several things to adopt note because these units are all individually owned you`ll find the dcor, bedding and kitchen amenities vary. Unlike a number of the larger condo complexes here, you can select and book a specific unit at Coral Stone Club. For families with young children I would recommend selecting a bottom floor unit. We found this incredibly helpful when our young son was having a nap, I was able to still sit on our terrace using a book, view the ocean but still be within earshot. For people searching for a quieter location, select a top floor unit that contain vaulted ceilings and unobstructed ocean views. This is a true self-catering condo complex as well as the employees are virtually non-existent. When we arrived on the Saturday one of many housekeepers let us inside the unit with all the instructions to check on-in at the desk on Monday. Also i didn`t discover the staff at the front desk each of the insightful once i asked for their personal advice on things to see & do. Remember though that almost all people staying listed here are either owners or vacationers which have been coming for years. Hanging out through the pool will be the course of action from the afternoon since the owners combine like long-lost friends and welcome us new timers. They are the real wealth of information with insider tips about things to see and experience whilst in Grand Cayman. We stayed in unit # 5 which we found to be really cozy and well-appointed. You can tell the owners are here frequently since there was every kitchen utensil and gadget imaginable available. You will probably find it odd that we was impressed with this but if you`re like me someone that frequently stays in cayman islands or private homes with extended family you`ll appreciate that. We also appreciated the screened in porch and spent lots of time here enjoying meals and playing video games. The supermarket is across the road within walking distance and you could you may want to bring the cart returning to the machine. The store sends staff later inside the day to recover the carts in the neighboring condo properties. The true highlight here I do believe may be the beach. Coral Stone Club enjoys a remarkably wide, clear area of beach with just the right balance of natural tree shade and beach loungers. I would personally recommend a stay in Coral Stone Club inside a heartbeat for families looking for an upscale-yet-down-home beachfront vacation. This would also be a great location for 2-3 couples to discuss a unit and revel in a soothing holiday. Rates start at $695 per night. Plan your visit during the summer time months and receive your 6th night free!
Our next stop was the Caribbean Club just a couple of doors down. If you`ve been to Grand Cayman you may recall the Caribbean Club of old that has been consisting of several cozy beach and garden cottages. After hurricane Ivan the new owners completely tore down and rebuilt three luxurious towers bringing a new amount of luxury to SMB. Having spent several days at Coral Stone Club where I felt the accommodations were already quite nice, I did not expect the opulence of Caribbean Club. Separated into three towers that are in U shape facing the ocean, all units are huge at 2500 square feet with three bedrooms and three baths and also richly appointed. Caribbean Club operates a lot more like a hotel because they generally do have full staff with daily maid service, concierge and room service available. Their on-site restaurant and bar Ristorante Luca serves up a delectable combination of Italian cuisine and fresh seafood and is a good location to enjoy music in the evenings. Each one of the units are individually owned and decorated and feature a sizable verandah facing either the pool or ocean. Due to the layout in the property when you are in the pool view unit, expect to be right on top of your neighbors. Not a whole lot privacy to be found here when all units basically face one another. The soil floor ocean front villa suites are particularly fantastic as you literally walk 4 steps off the verandah and get your toes within the sand. Our particular unit was very luxurious although not as personalized or that child friendly (think glass tables and plenty of breakables). Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our remain at Caribbean Club and so i would recommend this property for those 80dexapky with older kids, teenagers or several couples seeking luxury accommodations with a little more options in the form of dining and entertainment. Rates start at $650 per night in low season to get a Tower ocean suite.
Another great option is the greater number of moderate Lacovia complex in lower SMB. Even closer to George Town, this complex resembles even more of an apartment building with ample parking, a garden pool in the middle of the complex and a range of accommodations from 1-2 bedroom units with either garden, pool or ocean views. Each unit is individually owned and decorated with some units very moderate and updated and others`not a lot. Each unit we saw was very clean, comfortable and included all of the amenities one could expect of any rental. Why is Lacovia this type of appealing option I do believe may be the quiet atmosphere, fantastic beachfront location and cost. One bedroom units start only $290 per night in low season which for this particular quality of accommodation in Grand Cayman is an excellent deal. Great choice for couples, families or single travelers searching for a destination to escape all this.
Also worth mentioning will be the contact. Really the only five diamond resort around the island and the best option if you are looking to get a full service resort. With consistent Ritz Carlton services and amenities this resort supplies a full service spa (consistently ranked in the top 2 in the Caribbean) and a lot of the best restaurants around the island. Even though you don`t stay at the Ritz, make plans for lunch at 7 Prime Cuts & Sunset or BLUE by Eric Ripert that provides fine dining as well as a romantic atmosphere. It is very important note that the primary hotel can be found down the street from the beach so when you book garden or resort view rooms, you`ll need to walk on the beach by way of their air bridge. They generally do come with an oceanfront tower on the beach which can be a few things i would recommend in case your budget allows. This is actually the best choice for honeymooners seeking luxury. Rates start at $299 per night in low season with 5th night free. Oceanfront rooms start at $579 per night.
